Richard Carlton Moore, Sr.

Richard Carlton Moore, Sr., 85, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at home under the care of his loving family and Hospice of South Georgia Inc.

A resident of Wayne County for over sixty-five years, Richard was born on November 3, 1933 in Boston Massachusetts. He spent his early years there before joining the United States Army in the mid 1950’s where he was stationed at Fort Stewart. Richard retired from Rayonier in 1994 after more than thirty-eight years of employment and was a faithful member of First Freewill Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School.  He was meticulous and patient by nature and enjoyed woodworking and fixing things, especially motorcycles.  Richard was well known for his ability to fix just about anything but more than anything he devoted himself to his family.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished spending time with the ones he loved.

Survivors include wife of sixty-five years, Vera Chadwick Moore;  one son, Richard C. Moore, Jr. and wife, Phyllis of Odum and their children Carlie Waters and husband, Dylan and Jena Brown and husband, Jonathan and one daughter, Debbie Carter and husband, Horace of Jesup and their children, Lauren and Cheston.    Three great grandsons, Jhett, Jaxen and Waylan and a host of extended family members also survive.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2019 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with Reverend Stanley Todd officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Red Hill Cemetery with military honors rendered by the United States Army.

Active pallbearers will be Doug Chadwick, Chad Chadwick, Jamey Chadwick, Cheston Carter, Dylan Waters and Jonathan Brown.  Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Hospice of South Georgia.
