Linda Horton Thornton

Linda Horton Thornton, 81, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019 at home.

Linda and her twin sister, Glinda were born on July 27, 1938 in Brunswick to the late, Tommy and Ruby Ogden Horton.  She spent her early years in the Piney Grove Community and attended school in Odum.  Linda was a hard worker who worked a full time job and raised seven children.  She cared for patients as a home healthcare nurse for several years but most of her working career was spent working in a sewing factory as a seamstress, a craft which she had mastered.  Many Easter mornings were spent putting the finishing touches on dresses she had made for her girls or finishing up suits for her boys.  Linda was always actively involved in church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.  Most recently, she was a member of True Life Assembly of God.  In her spare time, she enjoyed swimming, sewing and was a talented piano player but more than anything, she loved spending time with her beloved family. 

In addition to her parents, her husband of sixty years, Farris H. Thornton, Sr., her brother, Mallory Horton and her twin sister, Glinda Thornton, her adopted daughter, Deborah Tamms and son-in-law, Ray Thorne all preceded her in death.

 Survivors include seven children, Cynthia Thornton of Blackshear, Brinson and Debbie Hodges Thornton of Mershon, Annette Thorne of Offerman, Phillis and Allen Smith of Mershon, Darlene and Tony Thorne of Patterson, Farris Thornton, Jr. and wife, Cheryl Thomas Thornton of Offerman and Valerie and Shon Thornton of Patterson, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; two brothers, Tommy Horton and wife, Renee of Jacksonville and Rudy Horton of Jesup and one sister, Willa Siemek and husband, Vern of Jesup.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members also survive.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the New Life Assembly of God in Blackshear.

Interment will follow in Offerman Cemetery.

Active Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Hunter Thornton, Josh Thornton, Justin Thorne, Matthew Smith, Anthony Thorne and Aaron Thornton.

Honorary pallbearers will be her Grand and Great Grandchildren.
