Basilio Martinez, affectionately known by his family and friends as “JaJo,” passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at home at the age of 89.
Basilio was born on January 11, 1930 in Coamo, Puerto Rico to the late Eladio Martinez and Gregoria Dejesus. He spent his early years there and moved to Brooklyn, New York as a young man where he lived most of his life. Basilio was an entrepreneur who owned and operated several businesses throughout his career including a real estate management business. He and his late, wife, Sensa Lugo, spent much of their spare time traveling all over the world.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Basilio was preceded in death by his sisters, Maria and Iris Martinez and his brothers, Domingo, George and Jose Martinez.
Survivors include four brothers, Santos, Julio, Oscar and Jacinto Martinez; nieces, Iris Yambo and husband, Domingo Deida and Marisol Bonilla and husband, Robert; nephew, Rogelio Gonzalez and wife, Melissa; sister-in-law, Brunilda Lugo; godson, Raymond Anthony Echevarria and great niece, Elba Iris Martinez. A host of extended family members also survive.
Private memorial services will be held at a later date.
